START AFRAID!

Today, I’m going to tell you a story; an unusual story of me and a dog. If you know me, you’d know how much I don’t like dogs. Well, mostly because I’m terrified of dogs.

..
..

Have you ever had fears? Have you wondered why you are so afraid of those things? Where did those fears even come from?

..
..

I have always, always been so terrified of dogs. It was so terrible I wouldn’t even cover a distance of about ten feet.

I can’t say exactly why I had that fear, but I know it had lasted a long time. Years even.

Perhaps the fear began the time I was chased by about 3 dogs at a time, and almost got bitten. Or perhaps, it was way longer before then; when my teacher in primary school taught us that one gets rabies from dogs after been bitten.

Where ever that fear originated from, it kept me caged. I’d always admire when someone is going all berserk, playing with a dog; yet if that same dog comes to play with me, I run the opposite direction.

Don’t imagine it; it was crazy!

..
..

Often times, you stay limited and caged by your fears. But here’s the funny thing; you lock yourself in, hold on tightly to the keys, and keep screaming HELP!

How many times have you wanted something, yet too afraid to try?
How many times have you limited yourself because you are too afraid of an epic flop?

Most times, you can’t even place a finger on how or why you are so afraid, but you still are.

..
..

You know how it goes. Do I even need to go into details about this?

What are you so afraid of? And what are you doing about it?

..

This may be a cliché, but it still proves true. The only way to beat your fears is to actually face it.

..

Last week, I came face-to-face with this really big dog. That wasn’t the first time I was seeing it, yet the fear heightened each time.

I always felt this dog could end my whole existence in just one bite, lol.

The dog recently gave birth and has this happy-go-lucky puppy. The puppy is so active and lively, and that frightened me even more.

It’s just a puppy who loves to play, yet I saw it as a threat.

..
..

I was standing, unawares, and next time I turned, the puppy was right in front of my eyes— tongue and eyes all popping out. My sister held it up and put it right in front of me. My default and natural reaction was to scream so loud. Lol.

Few minutes later, my sisters gingered me on till I was able to hold that puppy in my hands. I was still uncomfortable carrying it, but at least I did. First step.

Few more minutes down— after an embarrassing video and a few laughs— there I was playing not just with the puppy, but with mama bear as well.

I was super excited. That was the closest I’ve ever been to a dog, in like forever.

You know that feeling of having accomplished something or smashed a goal, yeap! That was how I felt.

So yes, FACE YOUR FEARS does work.

..

What fears are you still holding on to? While I still have a lot of fears as well, I’m going to give myself the same advice; START AFRAID!

What fears are you going to begin working on and facing?

  1. This sentence aptly captured my attention: Often times, you stay limited and caged by your fears. But here’s the funny thing; you lock yourself in, hold on tightly to the keys, and keep screaming HELP!
