PRAYER; what’s in it for you.

For the past two days, I’ve been talking on prayer. And I must say, the reviews, questions…from this series have been heart-warming. Thank you.

If you are just joining in for the first time, I’d suggest you read the two previous posts on prayer. It would foster better understanding.

While I ensured I prayed everyday— with not-so-proper motives, that is— I was undergoing a change process without even realizing.

I’d get back to that point soon. But first, let me quickly make a point.

Recently, I worried and worried that I wasn’t as consistent in prayer as I formerly used to be. In all sincerity, I sought help; I tried on my own to stay consistent, but somehow, I fell short every time.

Early in the week, I was meditating on something quite unrelated when it hit me. That Aha moment I had was what I have successfully shared here for three days.

Back to the story;

While I was initially able to remain consistent in prayer because it involved me and things I needed urgently, something else happened.

First, I noticed that I was able to beat inconsistency. I mean, no day passed without me offering prayers at least twice. That was the first thing achieved.

Also, I noticed that the more I remained in the place of daily prayer, the longer the time I began to spend, and the more I began to actually love and enjoy it.

If you worry, like me, that you can’t last long in prayer, or you’re not consistent, take these words seriously and try them out too.

The more consistent I remained, the more my gaze and focus shifted. I no longer prayer a lot of “me, me, me” prayers, but slowly began to align with His will and desires.

It became a case of my heart and lips aligning and becoming one with His will as well.

This is a typical example of “come as you are!”

If you are having wrong motives in prayer, come! If you are having consistency problems, come! If you are worried that your prayer is only two-minutes long, come! Here’s a God calling out to you; He makes due of what you have and can (at the time) offer.

There is so much the place of prayer has to offer. So much.

This series is very important to me because they are indeed answers to everything I had been seeking for a while now.

Remember I said I worried about my consistency and every other thing? Well, for a while now I’ve had Kim Walker’s “Returning” on repeat. I knew it was a call to, but I didn’t exactly know what. But now I do.

This may not be the best advice out, but here’s what I’d suggest;

  • Find a strong enough reason to go in prayer daily. With this knowledge gained, if you feel you have the wrong motives, you can either keep at it till He changes you in the place of prayer, or pray to Him to help you change your motif— either way, He changes you and He uses your willingness in prayer to change you.
  • How long you spend in prayer shouldn’t be your focus; His desires should.
  • You can’t grow consistent in prayer if you don’t actually pray, so pray.

Has this been a wonderful journey for you as it has been for me? Would you tell me all about it?

Do check back again, as often as you breathe.

And I’m sending love and light your way.

Cheers to steady growth,

Zoey.
