How To Set Goals For Maximum Productivity in 2022

This is the 3rd day of January (already) and while it’s not too late to wish you a happy new year, I admit that it should have come sooner.

Before anything else, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It is that time of the year, where you tend to get caught up in the ‘new year, new me’ saga— making a long list of do’s and don’ts for the year, and breaking almost every one of them before day 10.

We’ve all been there.

I understand that the intentions are good. At least, you’re making efforts to be more productive in your life daily. But if you don’t learn to go about it the right way, you’d be having another unproductive year.

To avoid that, here’s what you must know about setting goals for maximum productivity in 2022.

1. Set Yearly Goals

Contrary to what you may have been doing, this is not the time to come up with a ten-paged list of do’s and don’ts for the coming year.

If you observe carefully, some of the things on your list can be summed up in one or a few more words.

Group what can and should be grouped and then have a maximum of THREE SMART goals.

This not only makes it easier to pursue, it also helps you NOT get overwhelmed at first glance. You see, the more you see that lengthy list, the more overwhelmed you’d feel, and the less motivated you’d be to push through with it.

And before you count 1…2…3, another unproductive year has gone speedily by and the same circle would be repeated the following year.

So, rather than have 6 items on your list all talking about ‘money’, you can group it into “financial goals” and then break it down some more using the SMART blueprint.

For instance, have something like “my financial goal in 2022 is to have a million naira in both savings and business profits by the end of the year.”

I’d explain better…

2. Have Monthly Plans

After setting an overall yearly goal, the next thing to do is to break it down into monthly plans.

Remember your maximum goals for the year should be about three goals— goals you plan to execute and pursue rigorously.

You could decide to pick all three and begin working on them for the month, but for the best results and efficiency (which is the aim of this post), I’d recommend you pick just one, or at most two.

One feature that must be in place for achieving your goals is focus. That’s right, you need to learn to eliminate as many distractions as possible. Even an intelligent goal can become a distraction to you when you decide to do everything at once.

Pick any of the goals or an aspect of it, and then come up with a workable plan. For instance, that financial goal is still too broad, so you need to break it further down.

The first thing you should do is decide how much from that million naira goal you wish to accomplish that month. If you do not yet have a skill or business or anything that generates cash flow, now is the best time to begin with that.

If you decide you want to learn a skill like writing, for instance, now’s the time to seek out opportunities (free or paid), begin implementing and bringing forth results.

So, your goals for the month can look something like;
• Seek out e-books/trainings on the art of writing.
• Begin implementing rigorously.
• Make N50,000 from it.
• (And at some point, you may have to learn about saving and investing).

This is a random example, of course, but hopefully you get the point.

3. Set Daily Targets

This is where your proof of productivity lies. Your ability to remain consistent and productive must be done daily.

If you don’t break down your goal into daily tasks/activities, you will again get overwhelmed and end up abandoning it.

There’s this common advice you must have heard which says to “live one day at a time.” This is also applicable here. You have goals and want to live your dream life, then you must live it one day at a time.

Set daily targets from your monthly plans, in order to track your productivity.

After getting access to the course you wish to enroll in, you may decide to give yourself a week to complete it. And in that week, you’d also know and decide how many hours per day you need to invest in order to meet your goal.

In all, ensure to have daily activities which are in line with your goals. These daily targets sums up your week, your month, and ultimately, your year.

You don’t just wake up to a productive life; you work towards it daily by having the right actions in place.

It is also worthy of note that at the end of each day, you need to take out time to evaluate your progress for the day; so also at the end of every week and month.

What you should be doing at such times is tracking your productivity by knowing what areas you failed, and those you soared.

That’s how to set goals for maximum productivity in 2022.

Was this an enlightening read? Learned a thing or two? Have questions or something to add? Then drop them in the comments and I’d respond ASAIC ( as soon as I can).

Cheers to steady growth and productive living.
