MINDSETS

I love interacting with children. They are an interesting lot, everytime.

On one day, I was talking with a little boy of about 3 years. In the midst of the conversation, he said something a three-year-old shouldn’t.

And I’m not even talking about cussing, no. What he uttered was beyond just words; it was a mindset being expressed.

After all, out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

And then I got thinking; “just where would such a little boy get such thought patterns from?”
“From his parents or the ‘grown ups’ around him” was my answer to my own question.

I don’t even know how many times I’ve marveled at the wit, brilliance, wisdom or even guts of some children I considered “too small”.

Children are super sharp. They model what they hear you say, and what they see you do.

There’s something my mom always says; “there’s no secret when it comes to a child.” (Paraphrased).

And that’s true. That thinking pattern which that boy has already definitely came from somewhere or someone.

He must have long been told or heard some of the grown ups around him say so. It is only natural that he’d pick such lines of thought as well.

Since I was a little girl, I’ve heard the phrase which goes somewhat thus; “you [children] are the hope for tomorrow.”

How can this ever become the reality when it seems that hope is ever bleak.

If you want to change the world, start with yourself— your mind, that is— and then pick a child or two to transfer that healthy mindset to.

I literally cringe whenever I hear someone express something which tells of how ‘ugly’ that mindset they have is.

A mindset, by dictionary definition, is a way of thinking; an attitude or opinion, especially a habitual one.

The Bible refers to them as ‘strongholds’. And mindsets— believe it or not— actually do control your behaviors and reactions to things.

Whatever thought patterns you continually feed, soon grows to become a solid mindset; and a mindset— healthy or not— becomes such a difficult stronghold to tear down.

How are Mindsets Formed?

Mindsets come about when the mind makes an attempt to come up with answers by itself. The human mind is designed to always desire answers; and when none is forthcoming, it invents on it’s own accord, based on the ready ‘evidence’ it has.

Also, there’s this unsaid law which states “whatever you do, say or interact with continually becomes your reality.”

So, same rule; whatever you CONSTANTLY, CONTINUALLY and CONSISTENTLY feed your mind grows.

The more you feed your mind a certain thing or thought pattern, the more you believe it and the stronger it grows in your mind.

When next you catch yourself believing a certain thing you shouldn’t, stop yourself early and focus on something else.

In the next post, I’d talk about how to alter mindsets. Stay on your toes and stay expectant.

Maybe some other time, I’d talk extensively about the mind— the conscious and subconscious— and how much of a strong force it is.

But until then, check back again, and as often as you breathe.

Sending love and light your way.

Cheers to steady growth,

Zoey.
